PT// Theca é uma escultura ciborgue, uma instalação viva e híbrida que existe através da coexistência de entidades separadas, que se preservam mutuamente através da interação e da partilha de informações entre a matéria analógica e a digital, orgânica e inorgânica, entidades vivas e não vivas. Theca. The function of the invisible é o resultado de uma pesquisa multidisciplinar que a artista-designer Fara Peluso está a desenvolver há anos sobre as microalgas Diatoms, centrando-se na sua ecologia e na importância da sua existência invisível para a manutenção de uma biodiversidade e da vida de muitas espécies, incluindo os seres humanos.

EN// Theca is a ‘cybor’ sculpture, a hybrid living installation which exists through the coexistence of separated entities, their maintenance through the interaction and the share of informations between analog and digital, organic and inorganic matter, living and non-living entities. ‘Theca. The function of the invisible’ is the result of a multidisciplinary research that the artist-designer Fara Peluso is developing since years about the Diatoms micro-algae, focusing on their ecology and the importance of their invisible existence for the maintenance of a biodiversity and the life of many species including the human beings.

PT// Fara Peluso é uma artista – designer com sede em Berlim. É licenciada em desenho industrial na Universidade de Arquitectura ‘La Sapienza’ em Roma e como desenhadora gráfica. Através da investigação especulativa, ela joga como ligar o ser humano à natureza, aos organismos vivos e aos processos biológicos numa relação mais profunda. Constantemente pesquisando e inspirando-se em elementos presentes na Natureza, ela acredita que é uma grande Estratégia para o Design. A relação entre o ser humano e o seu ambiente é observada e o conceito de que somos os organismos vivos mais importantes da Terra é anulado. Fara Peluso quer contribuir para levantar questões críticas considerando que se trata de um papel pertencente a artistas e designers, ela pergunta como o design de novas ferramentas através de uma metodologia especulativa pode ser aplicado desta forma. Artefactos fictícios que contam a história de um possível cenário futuro sobre a qualidade das nossas vidas, atitudes e escolhas. Como artista designer com grande interesse em Biologia, Fara Peluso prossegue a sua profunda pesquisa sobre algas, inspirando-se nelas constantemente, experimentando e compreendendo como trabalhar com elas dentro do campo da Arte e do Design. O seu trabalho centra-se tanto nos aspectos materiais como processuais, investigando através de uma metodologia especulativa possíveis relações mais estreitas entre seres humanos e algas.
EN// Fara Peluso is a Berlin based artist – designer. She graduated in industrial design at University Architecture ‘La Sapienza’ in Rome as a graphic designer. Through the speculative research, she plays how to connect the human being with nature, living organisms and biological processes in a deeper relationship. Constantly researching and taking inspiration from elements present in Nature, she believes that it’s a great Strategy for Design. The relationship between the human being and its environment is observed and the concept that we are the most important living organisms on earth is cancelled. Fara Peluso wants to contribute to raising critical questions considering it a role belonging to artists and designers, she asks how the design of new tools trough a speculative methodology can be applied in this way. Fictional artifacts that tell the story of a possible future scenario about the quality our lifes, attitudes and choices. As artist designer with a strong interest on Biology, Fara Peluso pursues her deep research on algae taking constantly inspiration from them, experimenting and understanding how to work with them inside the Art and Design field. Her work is focused on both the material and the procedural aspects, investigating through a speculative methodology possible closer relationships between human beings and algae.
